I've always been the weird one.
During elementary school, I was always the youngest in my grade (I skipped first grade). I didn't wear the same clothes as everyone else, nor did I bring the same stuff in for lunch. While most kids were eating their peanut butter and fluff sandwiches, I was the one who found sushi in her lunchbox. My sense of humor was always different, and I never listened to the popular radio station; rather, I listened to whatever CDs my father and I had picked randomly off the shelves of the nearest weird indie record store.
Now I still feel so out of place, even amongst my friends. They always tease me for my age. And whenever I try to embrace my weirdness, I STILL get teased for it. I mean, I'm not THAT weird. I'm just different. (At least, that's what my mom tells me :P ).
But recently little things have been pushing me over the edge. For example, my best friend told me a story about the time she went shopping for my birthday present with her mom. At the mall, my friend, let's call her Sam, didn't know where to go to get my present. Her mom suggested clothes, but then immediately took it back, saying, "Kizzy sure does wear a lot of... out there clothes, doesn't she?" Later, as they were driving home, my friend popped in a mix I made for her the previous summer. As she and her mom listened, her mother commented, "Kizzy sure does listen to a lot of... out there music, doesn't she?"
It just sucks knowing that you don't fit in with even your closest friends.
